Icestone countertops are made from 100% recycled glass and mixed with a concrete matrix to form a very durable surface that rivals granite and Marble for its strength and durability.
According to the Manufacturer, Icestone has a wide range of uses, most particularly as a countertop surface for kitchens, bathrooms, bar tops and commercial top surfaces in restaurants, bars and businesses.
Icestone can be mounted horizontally, vertically as a backsplash and used as flooring. Icestone has passed the American Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for slip resistance. It is manufactured in large slabs and does need to be cut into tiles for practical purposes other than countertops though.
Environmental Impact of Icestone Recycled Glass Countertops
Icestone uses 100% recycled glass (post consumer and industrial) with a non toxic concrete matrix. Icestone is VOC-free and "Cradle to Cradle" Gold certified and can be used towards LEED credits Icestone does it's absolute best to ensure all products are sourced, both industrial and administrative, as 100% post consumer recycled raw materials and uses no petroleum based products or lubricants in its manufacturing. Icestone is manufactured in a daylight factory using a cool, low emission manufacturing process with a grey water recycling system. The machinery used in their plant is free of petroleum based lubricants, instead using soy based lubricants. Icestone recommends environmentally conscious water based, low emission VOC sealants, waxes and cleaners to protect your surfaces and discourages the use of ammonia's or bleach based cleaners which can affect the life of the product and the environment.

Icestone Surfaces are great for use in the home as they are chemically benign and 99.5% inorganic and non toxic as they do not contain any petroleum derived products. They do not emit any VOC and are NSF certified.

This material takes its sustainability seriously and does its best to use 100% raw post consumer materials at all times, uses daylight for its manufacturing plant and has introduced Soy based lubricants into its machinery. Outside of all this, it also uses 100% recycled glass and a non toxic concrete matrix in its manufacture. It is beautiful, durable and ecological as well.
